Hello dear followers,
I now officially have a twitter feed ! And I’ll be updating there both Fyrtorn and this blog’s instant news ! Here you go.
EDIT : I have created a now dedicated Twitter feed, just and only for this blog ! 🙂 Hope you won’t be spammed by all my useless ranting about Fyrtorn again 😉
So… you want to have your files everywhere ? to share some music or pictures with someone else ? To always have your work under hand ? Then you may want to try Dropbox.
Dropbox is a nice application that allows you to share folders and files with people/computers. It is available for Windows, Linux and Mac. It perfectly integrates into your file explorer, and you just have to install the client on it.
Dropbox under linux. As you can see, it’s entirely integrated into the file explorer.
Of course, you can choose who you can share your folders with (all your folders and files are normally private, but you can share them with friends). The files are then synchronized between the two computers (I guess they are saved on the server), and both of you can upload files to each other as if it happened instantly !
Finally, I think Dropbox can have a wide range of uses : from using it as a personnal USB key to sharing stuff with people, it could be plain useful ! So get it !
Little update about Dropbox : be careful, don’t put personal stuff such as your own artwork or music on it… they got a new line in their contract, so that they own anything you deposit there ! You have been warned !
Hello smart followers,
Today I shall tell you about a website I like a lot, Kaitai Dismantlement, or rather, about their Game dismantlement series.
So what’s the point of these games? Basically, you have nothing but a screwdriver, and you have to defuse a bomb. Each bomb is hidden inside a common object, would it be a computer mouse, a fan, or a smartphone, for instance.
Yes, this is a bomb.
If it were that easy, it wouldn’t be fun though. Most screws are hidden, and can only be revealed if you solve some kind of puzzles. Most of the time, these consist of a number/letter combination you have to find with some clues. And honestly, these clues can often be hard to guess. You have to look at every detail/letter/colour/number/logo/etc. on the item and try to think of all its possible meanings. Some of them are actually very tricky!
When you have found the bomb, a little race against the clock starts. You have 5:00 min, nothing more, to defuse the bomb, or it’ll explose at your face. And if you do a mere error while solving the usual riddle, it’ll blow at your face too ! So you have to stay calm and to think twice before doing anything on it.
The feared sight : the bomb…
The fight has started!
Solved ! NB : the solution is hidden… I don’t spoil.
Enough talked, though… Let’s play ! The easiest ones I know are the smartphone and the barber’s pole. Then, if you want more fun, try this watch, burger, radio, or hard disk drive.
Still wanting some fun ? Then try the hardest so far, the mouse, the fan or the toaster !
My favourite so far is the japanese tea canister. Hope you’ll like it, I think it’s really the funnest one!
I hope this will make you want to play them, or at least to enjoy it a bit !
Just to let you know, dear readers…
I might seem really inactive lately on this blog… But that’s not the case. There’s a lot of stuff behind the scene actually. I want to put a nice and fully-configured IRC chat link on my blog, so that you guys could chill out on it.
Stay tuned, I’ll try to make this available as soon as possible! (And maybe edit some posts in the meantime)
Hello again dear readers,
I’m just so happy! We’ve reached the 100th view today!
Thank you everyone! If I’ve managed to reach this point, it’s thanks to you! (And yeah, I’m sorry for this useless post, but I just wanted to share my happiness about it)
I hope I’ll get this blog to develop further and further! Actually, I’m working on many articles on my side when I find time… I hope you’ll get to see it!
And do not forget to spread the word about this place! Thank you again!
Hello fellow readers,
Today I wanted to tell you about one of my favourite web brainteasers. Of course, these who know me (but I’d rather say, these who have read the post’s title) have already guessed it… Escape rooms.
First of it all, what is an Escape room? Basically… You’re in your room. You want to go out, just to go shopping. So you come in front of your door, try to open it, and… nothing happens. Strange thing, you don’t remember having locked the door… And what’s this strange lock? Now you look around more closely trying to find the key, and… hey wait, this is not your room! And here starts the whole adventure.
Hey wait, I can’t go out! (Screenie from Lilina’s escape)
Escape rooms are click-and-play games, where 2 skills are of uttermost importance:
- Logic : finding your way out is mostly about finding which item can be used on what, and solving small puzzles to gain access to something new. Most of the time, you’ll have to think out of the box to figure things out. For instance, I’ve already used a screwdriver as a mean to reach items behind a grille ! (And yeah, the screwdriver is a typical Escape room item).
- Observation : you’ll have to find items all around the room. Some are very well hidden, so look everywhere!
How is it like to play one? Well, you should try it by yourself. In my opinion, this one (named Loom Above) is the best for starters. For the lazy ones, try this one [the easiest here].
As you’ll get better with them… You should try my favourite ones :
- Loom Dawn: In this one, you will have to light your way… litterally. It is so poetic!
- Kalaquli: this one is japan-themed, and very pretty too.
- Lilina’s escape : Here’s a character from the Final Fantasy series locked in her room! (I don’t know this one though, must be another weird subspecies) Anyhow, this game is cute, and has very nice graphics too.
Kalaquli. As nippon as you like.
If you like challenge… you have the next level here!
Here… Good luck for this one!
Of course, there are many, many more other rooms available on the web… So if you want more, here is the compulsory stop for any Escape room lover… Lambda blog! They always find decent escape rooms, although they have a lot of other minigames as well. And yeah, I know, it’s a french website… but they are really good. Besides, you’re there for the rooms, right?
Hope you’ll enjoy these brainteasers as much as I do!
